28th March 2003 – 2nd Club championship

The last night of the season had some exciting swimming on show. Tonight we ran a 100m Freestyle event for 10 years and up. This is in line with our aim to include 100m events for the strokes also, however we will have to look to see where these events can be accommodated in (or outside of) the club championship series.

Congratulations to Sean McFarlane- Bentley who won the 10 year old boys 100m Free in a 1.10.84 which was a 5 second PB. Congratulations also to Chris Brennan who won the clash of the 14 year boys 100m Free in a PB and out of a slower heat.

Our swimmers swam a 57% PB rate on the night and 23 club records were set or broken. Congratulations to the following swimmers who swam all PB’s. Katelyn Kishawi, Tiana Mamacan, Ali Plummer, Sherrie Eadie, Josh Flecknoe, Chanei Mamacan, Trent Mamacan, Barbara Efremova, Robbie Sharp, Holly Julian, and Rachel Mulhane.

Thank you to all the parents who acted as officials on the night and especially to those who had both parents performing duties.

Presentation Night will commence at 7.30pm at the Cronulla Surf Club on Friday 4th April followed by a short AGM and BBQ.

See you there!

21st March 2003 – Summer Championships

Championship nights are always a highlight of the season and this one was no exception. Thankyou to all the parents who worked on the night and ensured that everything ran smoothly. The results are on the notice board and on the web site.>/p>

There were some great results in the pool tonight. Nine records were broken and the PB rate was 64% – this was most noticeable in the Breaststroke. Swimmers who swam a PB in every event were Rebecca Kennedy, Nicholas Garland, Robert Hall, Robbie Sharp, Ryan Kishawi, Adam Verender, Kristen McAree, Rachel Mulhane, Megan Julian, Holly Julian, Trent Mamacan, Hannah Facey, Matt Spence, Jack Cullen, Ali Plummer, Erin Jemmeson, Lauren McFarlane-Bentley, Brad Facey, Matt Harden and Chris Brennan. That is a great achievement and the coaches were rapt with your efforts!

Special mention goes to Jesse Chamberlain who broke the 14yr 50m Breaststroke record which has stood since 1996. In fact, Adam Verender took at least 2 seconds off his PB’s in every event and Matt Spence took a huge 5 seconds off the 10 yr 100m Individual Medley record!

On the subject of records, it should be noted that Sean McFarlane- Bentley in the Free, Andrew Kennedy in the I.M and Chris Brennan, Brad Facey and Matt Harden in the Breaststroke all also swam under the existing record. That was some great swimming by all of you.

Thank you again to our coaches Tomas and Gary and we look forward to more great swimming next week!

Please remember to return your votes and raffle tickets please – see you Friday!

14th March 2003

Tonight was our last pointscore night of the season. Congratulations to all the swimmers who took up the challenge and produced PB’s on the night. Highlights included PB’s in the 200m Freestyle by Brittany and Erin, backstroke PB’s by Jack and Barbara, a 4 second Butterfly PB by Kristen McAree and Freestyle PB’s by Rebecca and Katelyn.

Thankyou to those swimmers who have responded to our questionnaire. We ask that everyone makes an effort to return their forms and have their say on the future direction of our club. Thank you also to the people who have already returned their raffle tickets. This is the time of the season when we spend the major part of our funds and we appreciate your support.

We’ll see you all next Friday for the first Club Championship night. All races cards are in and races are already seeded. Ribbons will be awarded to the first 3 placings in every heat and results from these nights will be used to in the calculation of age championship winners. We hope to see some exciting swimming next week!

7th March 2003

School swimming results continue to be encouraging. Congratulations to Justin Riley and Rob Sharp on some great PB’s and to Morgan Sara on breaking the Port Hacking Zone 50m Backstroke record. Congratulations also to Justin Riley, Hayley Dewar and Andrew Kennedy on making the finals of the swim at the State Surf Titles.

With only 2 weeks to go before our summer club championship series commences the competition is really starting to hot up. Tonight was an enormous night for PB’s with 6 swimmers qualifying to go up to the next distance in one or more events. Ty Murray continues his great form with PB’s in the 100m I.M and 50m Breast. Justin Riley and Barbara Efremova pushed each other to huge PB’s in their 50m Breaststroke as did Andrew Kennedy and Matt Spence in their 200m I.M’s. Well done to Conor Davis and Alicia Rigby on their first swims in the 100m I.M – and to Jack Cullen in his 200 I.M. Brad Facey continued his great form with a win in the clash of the big kids 50m Free tonight

Next week will be our last normal club night of the season and our club championships will be the last 2 nights of March. Parents are asked to remember that we will need 3 timekeepers per lane on these nights.

Good luck to Andrew Kennedy, Matt Spence and Jack Cullen at the Speedo Sprint Finals this weekend.
