What a fantastic night. 57 swimmers attended and amassed an amazing  32 freestyle, 44 Breaststroke and 26 IM PB's. he results were incredible as heat after heat swam out of their skins - wow - our kids really do like ribbons and certificates!

8 records were broken on the night. Alex Cox broke his own 50m Breaststroke mark. The duel between Alex and Andrew Kennedy saw Andrew go on to break all 3 13 yr old records on offer on the night - one of them being the existing 50m Freestyle mark which was lowered from 29.34 to 27.69! Izaak Smith swam 3 PB's on the night and set a new record in the 9 yr 50m Breast. Nicholas Garland lowered the 8 yr old Breaststroke record by .01 sec! Jedd Felice had a scorcher where he chased Izaak  down the pool in their 8/9 Free event and finished by breaking the 8 yr 50m Free record in a sensational 35.28. Kurtis Smith broke the 7 yr old Breast record. This record, which withstood quality challengers for 5 yrs -  has now been broken 3 times by 3 different swimmers in the last 9 months!

But it was not just about record breakers on the night. There was real movement on the Top 5 list and we hope to publish this on the website soon. The following all swam 100% PB's - Anna Boland, Kyle Druery, Barbara Efremova, Jedd Felice, Hannah Goman, Rebecca Kennedy, Cameron Libro, Rohan Hurst, Nicholas Jackson, Luke Macauley and Kurtis Smith.

Speedo Sprint Finals

Last weekend Jack Cullen, Kyle Druery, Barbara Efremova, Jedd Felice, Andrew Kennedy, Elise Newman and Izaak Smith attended the Speedo Sprint State Finals at SOPAC.

All our swimmers enjoyed the morning heats and swam well in a very strong field of competitors.

Izaak and Andrew then stayed to compete in the grand finals in the afternoon.  Izaak had a wonderful meet with 3 very exciting races finishing with silver medals in both his 50m freestyle and butterfly and a bronze medal in his 50m breaststroke. Andrew swam a great 50m backstroke PB finishing 2nd for the silver medal.

Jedd and Elise were both placed just outside the top ten and were therefore reserves for their breaststroke finals. Elise managed to leave Homebush and get to Penrith just in time to get in her Kayak and compete at the national titles where she then went on to win gold!!! She then hurried back (to the airconditioning!) just in case she got a swim in the finals.  Unfortunately neither she or Jedd got their finals swim.

Summer Metropolitan Championships – SOPAC 4-5 March 2006

Andrew Kennedy, Rebecca Kennedy, Elise Newman and Sherrie Eadie competed at these championships. (Matt Spence was entered but unable to compete due to injury).

To qualify to swim at this meet is an achievement in itself and we congratulate all our swimmers who made the qualifying times. Unfortunately, due to  NSW Surf Championship commitments, a few of our team were unable to attend the meet.

There were some great swims by our swimmers. The biggest achievement was Andrew Kennedy’s huge 4 sec PB in his 200m freestyle event in which he swam another National Age qualifying time. Andrew’s butterfly also continues to improve with a 4 sec L/C PB.

Elise Newman had a great start to her day when she swam a huge 3 sec PB in her 100m breaststroke and then dashed away to compete at Kayaking championships. Sherrie Eadie continued her good run and received a silver (freestyle) and a bronze (breaststroke) medal in the MD events. Rebecca Kennedy, who qualified for 3 events which is a great achievement, swam close to her long course PBs.

We would also like to thank Terry who gave up his weekend to be at Homebush to support  our swimmers.

Club Night Report – 24th February 2006

Once again, we had a quieter night than usual. Many of our swimmers are in the final preparations for the State Surf Lifesaving Championships and we have seen little of them!

Please Note that, due to these Championships being held in Cronulla over the first 2 weekends in March and the impossible parking situation it will cause, club nights will not resume until Friday March 17th

Tonight was the second last Pointscore night of the season and our swimmers swam 21 Breaststroke PB’s, 20 IM PB’s and 8 Freestyle PB’s. 100% PB’s were achieved by Kyle Druery and Adam Verrender. These 2 boys have been swimming some sensational times week after week.

2 PB’s were swum by Anton Nikulin, Kelly Hickman, Izaak Smith, Taylah Felice, Travis Jemmeson, Harrison Wiles, Ebony Green, Nicole Bertovic, Aidan Fisher, Belinda Bertovic, Tim Weston, Tyler Nott, Aidan Hurst, Joel Walker, Anna Boland and Lachlan Hurst. Congratulations to all these swimmers.

Special mentions go to Hayden Lohman, who swam a 7 sec PB in his 100m IM even though he had just stepped off the bus after being at camp all week, and to Izaak Smith who breaststroked his way into the Top 5 list as well as swimming  a PB in his  200m IM

Also, welcome back to Amy Walker after a bout of pneumonia and a visit to hospital and to Katelyn Kishawi who has just been busy :)

We are getting some wonderful feedback on our swimmers’ results at their school swimming carnivals. We will try and compile a special report on your achievements for the next newsletter.

This was also a bonus for Tim Boland who was able to swim a time trial at the end of the evening and swim into the top 5 13 yr old 100m IM swimmers list. There is no club record that will be safe by the time Kurtis and big brother Izaak celebrate their next birthdays!

This was actually a huge night as we had many swimmers qualify to go up to the next distance. Our younger swimmers especially had a great evening with Harry Ashford-Cox, Renee Druery, Curtley Duncan, Aidan Fisher and Tim Weston all moving up from 12.5m to 25m in one (or more) events. New member Luke Macauley continues to improve and smashed his IM time now that he knows the sequence of strokes. Andrew swam a club PB and won the race!!! Gotta watch out for those ankle biters Alex - they grow up!

Welcome also to our visitors, Ebony, Tayla, Brendan and Tyler - we are so glad you enjoyed your night at swim club.

Nicholas Jackson's breastroke start was superb!

Jack Harrison winning his first ever medal - Gold - and running so fast to collect his medal that he was probably at the announcer's desk before he had finished reading his name

12/u relays had a life of their own1 Our 3 teams were SOOO excited about swimming this event. We let the kids work out their order of swimming with the "A" team changing their's about 10 times! BSC Rockdale Australia day Meet Report - 26th January 2006

Andrew and Rebecca Kennedy, Kelly and Ross Hickman, Matt Spence and Timothy Boland attended this meet. It was a great opportunity to get a LC hit out before school swimming starts and it certainly shook out some cobwebs!

Our swimmers had a great day with many LC PB's. Tim Boland had a spectacular meet recording 100% all time PB's. Andrew Kennedy (13) had a very successful day winning 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals which is impressive considering the strokes were in 13/14 dual age format. Rebecca Kennedy won 1 silver and 2 Bronze medals and Matt Spence won 1 silver and 1 Bronze medal.

Kelly and Ross swam 100% LC PB's today which is a great return to swimming after a month off over Christmas.

Goodbye Tomas

On the last day of State Tomas took the kids aside and let them know that he had decided to leave. Tomas explained to them that there were lots of things he wanted to do away from the pool and, when put this way, it is simple to understand.

Tomas fell into the role of senior coach at the tender age of 21.Since then he coached swimmers to State and National level. For many of our swimmers he has been their only coach and he will be very sadly missed. Tomas has assured us that he will continue to visit us just like Gary does and that he will come back to say goodbye to all the kids when club returns.

Terry Noel remains there for our swimmers so we still expect a huge summer season with business as usual.

Thanks for everything Tomas - just make sure you send lots of postcards!

State Championships 13-18 yrs January 2006

To date the big news is that Andrew Kennedy smashed his 200m Breast PB by 5 sec, finished in 5th place in the final, and qualified for the National Age Championships!

Andrew has also swum 8 LC PB's this week which is a fantastic achievement. One of those PB's was in the first leg of the 13/14 yrs Free relay. Andrew set the pace with a fantastic 28.8, and was then followed by Justin Riley, Matt Spence and Sean McFarlane-Bentley. This team of 13 yr olds finished with a creditable 28th placing.

On the last day of the meet Andrew and Matt were joined by Cameron Libro and Tim Boland. These 2 boys were came into the team when 2 of the original team members withdrew. There was a minor reshuffle and it was all systems go! The boys knew that their placing would not be great with a team of 13 yr olds and using 2 reserve swimmers but were all very happy to see what they could do. The result was fantastic! Cameron led out in a 36.59 PB backstroke swim, followed by Andrew and Matt with near PB swims in the Breast and Fly. Tim then swam a PB 31.4 Freestyle leg to bring us home. To their credit, the boys went in knowing they may finish dead last in the event....but they didn't!
